Database Normalization

Some Key Definitions or point to remember are


we uses normalization to make our database more convenient

i.e breaking up our table into smaller tables to reduce data redundancy



A relation is said to be in 2NF if it is already in 1NF and non-key attribute are fully functionally dependent on the key attribute



If a key has more than one attribute then no non-key attribute should be functionally dependent on a part of the key attribute



3NF states that a relation should be in 2NF and all other attributes should be functionally dependent only on the key



4NF states that if a relation have more than one composite key having one common attribute and if the non-common attribute of one composite key is dependent on an attribute of the other composite key we use BCNF
